LIMASSOL

The Archangelos at Monagri was built in 1740 , on the foundations of an older monastery that had burned down . of a special interest is the painted wood – carvediconostasis and the near by olive oil mill from the Roman period . The northern buildings of the monastery have been renovated and now accommodate a centre of contemporary art.

Theatres
The annual Shakespeare festival is held every summer at the open air kourion amphitheatre between limassol and pafos . the magical setting overlooking the Mediterranean on a starry summer nite enhances the atmosphere created by shakespeare's drama . The shakespeare Festival is a charity event organized by the society for chest Diseases. This year's performances are scheduled for june 24, 25 and 26 and guests will enjoy ‘The Tempest'.
Amuthus Archaelogical site
11km east of limssol one of the ancient city kingdoms of Cyprus where according to mythology ,Theseus left the pregnant Ariadne to be cared for after his battle with the Minotaurus . A very important cult of Aphrodite- Asttarte flourished here . Exavations have revealed parts of the Acropolis and Agora areas as well as part of the upper and lower city . The remains include five early christian basilicas dating from the Archaic Roman and Christian periods.
