Larnaka,the island's main airport town and secondary port , is known for its links with the past as well as with the modern world! In the heart of the modern Larnaka you will find the remains of the ancient city-kingdom of kition ,reminiscent of glorious days .

The Mycenaean Greeks fortified the town with cyclopean walls in the 12th century , while the phonecians founded a powerful kingdomhere in the 9th century .Kition in the birth place of the philosopher Zenon founder of the Stoic School, and it is here that saint Lazarus was resurrected in the 18th century kition became a commercial center and the seat of the European consulates.Today Larnaka's landmarks include the delightful palm trees promenade ,the fort , and the old quarters . The salt lake near the airport is an environmental jewel as a favourite stopover for thousands of migrant birds in winter. Tekke , an important Muslim pilgrimage site in a tranquil setting overlooks the lake.

Phinikoudes Beach is located on the palmlined seafront of larnaka and is the ideal place for sunbathing and chilling out . Nearby are numerous shops, restaurants , bars and entertainment within walking distance from the beach . The harbour is located nearby and you can hire a boat there to take you out and about.

 

Makenzie Beach is known for its lovely white sand and clear blue waters. There are a number number of water sports facilitiesbased here . These include scuba diving , which is a very popular sort on this part of the island . Mackenzie beach also has a large choice of excellent restaurants which are famous for their local Cypriot cuisine and especially the fresh fish.

Faros Beach near the lighthouse in pervolia village outside larnaka is ideal for jumping waves , with mainly from the south and southwest. Huge bay with plenty of space for everyone.

 

Kiti Beach on the tip of cape kiti , overlooking the sparkling clear blue waters of the Mediterranean sea , is a place of untainted coastal beauty where enchanting sunset meet sapphire blue waters .

 

Blue Flag Beachesin the area : Mackenzie and phinikoudes Beaches in Larnaka itself , as well as Yanates in voroklini , outside Larnaka . All are marked by leng strectches of sandy beach and shallow waters.
