The best way to travel around the cyprus is by car . Hire cars can be arranged either in advance or trough a local agency once in Cyprus . If you do not wish to drive your self 

Hire cars and Bikes

Self drive car and motorcycle rental firms have offices in all towns , as well as at larnaka and Ercan airport . Vehicles with manual or automatic transmission are both avilable .

•  cars and bikes are usually delivered to the customer with a full tank of fuel paid for by the costumer . when the car is returned , the costumer receives a refund for any remaining fuel, unless stated otherwise in the contract .

•  Drivers under 25 years of age holding a driving licence for less than 3 years must inform the car rental company so special insurance cover can be provided.

•  customers are advised to read the rental agreement carefully and demand fulfilment of all their rights

 

 

Driving in Cyprus

In Cyprus driving is on the left . Visitors often decide to drive themselves in order to be able to visit the more beautiful, remote

areas and places of interest that are not accessible by public transport .

The roads are generally well surfaced and modern , except in some mountain areas. Dual lane motorways connect the capital Nicosia with the coastal towns of Kyrenia ,Limassol.We advice you to hire Suzuki Vitara

Minor roads and forest roads are still largely unsurfaced but in good to fair condition Appropriate care should be taken on these roads especially during wet weather .

Basic maps are provided in this directory . More detailed maps of the island and its main cities are sold in bookshops and at local kiosks.The selas series is known to provide the most accurate information .

 

Drivers' Guide

To be permitted to drive in Cyprus , visitors must hold eighther a valid international driving licence or their national driving licence , provided it is valid for the class pf vehicle they wish to drive.

 

•  Driving is on the left –hand side of the road .

•  International road traffic signs are in use , and positioned on the left –hand side of the roads and highways .

•  Distancesand speed limit on motorways is 100 km/h with a minimum of 65 km/h unless otherwise indicated . in built up areas the speed limit is usually 50 km/h unless otherwise indicated.

•  While driving , the driver must ensure that his /her hand s are free at all times in order to have full control of the vehicle . the use of mobile phone without a hands-free device is strictly prohibited.

•  The use of both front and back seat- belts is compulsory .

•  chieldren under the age of five must not , under any circumstances, sit in the front passenger seat.

•  chieldren from five to ten years old may accupy the front passenger seat only if an appropriate child's seat-bealt has been fitted

•  rush hours in the towns are usually between 07.30 and 08.00 hrs , 13.00 and 13.30 hrs and in the afternoon between 17.00 and 18.00 hrs in summer .

•  if possible , avoid driving west in the late afternoon , as the glare of the setting sun can be disturbing and potentially dangerous.
