The Most Dangerous Roads in North Cyprus

To that end, we decided that it would be a good idea to tell you a little bit about some of the roadways you will travel while you are on holiday with us. If you are a sensible driver, then you will not have any problems driving while in North Cyprus, especially if you remember our advice when it comes to the most dangerous roads the country has to offer.

Probably the most dangerous roadways in North Cyprus are those that surround the Five Finger Mountains. The mountain range runs parallel to the north coast of the country. The range runs 175 kilometers in length and it is made up of rock that can be generally classified as limestone.

Dolomite and marble can be found here and visitors to the area as well as the shoreline of the north coast will marvel at the fossils that can be found there, including fossils of pygmy hippopotami. It is said that the range was created when two giants were chasing each other millions of years ago. One giant threw the rocks at the other and missed his target, creating the ridge that still today looks like a clenched fist.

Currently there are three main roads that go through the mountains although there are other paths that are used by forestry personnel, walkers and wildlife. The mountains themselves are a natural barrier between the coast and the Mesaoria Plain, and visitors to the area will notice that the vegetation that covers the Fiver Fingers is varied. Pine, Cypress and deciduous trees cover the northern slopes while the southern side is sparsely covered. It is here that many castles can be visited, which makes traveling the roads in and around the Five Finger Mountains a delight.

However, many of the most deadly accidents in North Cyprus happen on these roads. The roads themselves are only two lanes and most of those two lanes are one-line, making passing on the roads very difficult. They are also run by trucks and lorries from sun up to sun down. Because the roads are only two lanes and narrow, navigating in and around them in conjunction with the many larger vehicles makes them hazardous, especially during the wet winter months where rain and sometimes snow is found in these mountains.

Another dangerous road in North Cyprus is the Esentepe Road. The road travels from Kyrenia into the town of Esentepe which is located at the foot of the Kyrenia Mountains. The approach to the town of Esentepe is windy and narrow, making it dangerous even in good weather. But the area itself is well worth visiting as the beaches are spectacular and the shopping enjoyable. There are many new residential developments being built in this area of North Cyprus and the Esentepe Road is seeing more and more traffic every day.

With plenty to do in the area, it is no wonder this road is well traveled. There is a brand new 21 hole golf course just outside of Kyrenia on the Esentepe Road, and in order to see the turtles between May and September you have to traverse this twisting road. And that is before you even stop and add in all of the historical sites that are also found here, such as the castle of St. Hilarion, the Roman ruins and amphitheater at Salamis and the Karpaz Peninsula. If you base yourself in Esentepe, you can also visit Famagusta and Nicosia.

Why is the Esentepe Road considered a dangerous one? This two lane road is a one line, meaning that there are very few places along it to pass slower moving vehicles. Additionally the road is narrow, so if something were to happen to your vehicle there is no room to pull off. Most of the accidents that happen with a North Cyprus Car Hire vehicle happen here. With the narrow road and the amount of construction traffic found on it as the area grows, you simply cannot drive carefully and hope for the best.

If you are going to visit this area of North Cyprus and travel on the Esentepe Road, make sure you take the curves carefully, stay in your lane and do not get close to any truck, construction vehicle or lorry. If they have any problems on the road and you are right behind them, they may not know you are there and an accident could occur if they make a sudden stop.

Finally, the Girne-Lapta Road is another roadway to be wary of when driving in North Cyprus. It is a one line, two lane road that is currently experiencing some very bad traffic congestion. A lot of road rage is seen on this road and careless driving here is the norm. Part of the problem is that this road is one of the main roads that are used by North Cypriots going to and from work. The road is the busiest between 7:30am and 9:00am North Cyprus time and 5:30pm and 7:00pm North Cyprus time. The night time traffic tends to be heavier around the weekends and holidays as many people hit the road for their days off.

There is a Girne Bypass currently being built and as of October 2009 a single bypass carriageway has been opened on the Girne-Lefkosa Road. How long will it take for the Girne-Lapta Road bypass to be finished? No one knows, but once this bypass is completed the congestion on the Girne-Lapta Road is expected to diminish immensely.
Obviously you do not want to miss this beautiful area of North Cyprus during your holiday. You have the option of braving the morning and evening traffic, but we recommend driving before or after the above listed times. It will make your holiday more enjoyable and you will not be subjected to the aggressiveness of the other drivers on the road with you.

It also has a large boot, making it convenient for renters with a lot of luggage. The biggest disappointment in the Ford Focus that our customers have pointed out to us is that it loses power going uphill. It will do the job, but it just takes a little longer to clear the top.

Ford Fiesta
Ford Fiesta’s have come a long way since they were first introduced by the company in the 1970s. The models of today look nothing like their predecessors. They are more streamlined and the hatchback option gives the renter a lot of room for luggage and other items. We offer this car with air conditioning which is needed during the summers in North Cyprus and very much appreciated by our customers. It is another car that is great for small families and it has a powerful engine to get you around North Cyprus easily. The biggest downfall of our Ford Fiesta’s: we do not offer it in an automatic transmission.

Hyundai Getz
Hyundai’s have a great track record for being reliable vehicles that are economical and easy on gas. It is a great small car that can seat four to five people comfortably. With air conditioning and the option to hire it in automatic and manual transmission, our customers enjoy visiting Northern Cyprus in one of these vehicles. Unfortunately, the Hyundai Getz is not conducive to four passengers with a lot of luggage. It has a very small boot.

Fiat Punto
The Fiat Punto is a nice family car that falls in the same category as the Ford Fiesta and the Hyundai Getz. It can easily seat four to five people and comes with manual or automatic transmission and air conditioning. It actually is roomier than its Ford and Hyundai counterparts, something our customers have marveled over time and time again. With a powerful engine, the Fiat Punto can easily pull the hills around the mountains of Cyprus. The biggest downfall of the Fiat Punto? It has a really small boot.

Hyundai Matrix
Not to be confused with the Toyota Matrix, the Hyundai Matrix is in the same category as the Fiat Punto, the Ford Focus, and the Ford Fiesta. It offers our customers manual or automatic transmission, air conditioning – you simply cannot visit this island in the summer without air conditioning – power steering and economical driving. Our customers find this a great, comfortable car with a large boot and the most room in all of our saloon vehicles. Tall people have a problem with the high seats and the lack of headroom, but for the most part holiday makers in North Cyprus have really praised the roominess this car offers.

Suzuki Jimmy
The Suzuki Jimmy is one of North Cyprus Car Hire’s classic car hires. This great 4 x 4 is favored with our off-road adventurers and they come in a soft top with a summer and winter roof. Comfortable and stylish, the Suzuki Jimmy is deceptive as it looks smaller than it really is. It can easily accommodate four adults with minimal boot room. With seatbelts in the front and the back, it is one of our most popular rentals. The Suzuki Jimmy has one downfall. It does not come with air conditioning. The summer soft top, which we put in place in May, can be removed so that you can enjoy the fresh air and fun that jeeps are known for. But when you drive a Jimmy in the heat of the day in August, you will wish for air conditioning.

Suzuki Samurai
Along with our Suzuki Jimmy we offer our more adventurous customers the Suzuki Samurai. This is the cheapest vehicle in our fleet and it comes equipped with a soft top. It is a 4x4 and while our Samurai’s are not the newest in our fleet, we make sure they are in top running condition. They are economical and great for two to four adults. We do not recommend this vehicle for families because there are no seatbelts in the back of these vehicles. This has been one of the biggest complaints our customers have made about this jeep. Additionally, there is no power steering or power anything with the Samurai. We’ve actually had some customers tell us driving one of these is like driving a tank. Why do we still offer this vehicle? Because the adventurous holiday makers in North Cyprus like the fact that this vehicle is cheap to hire and can go off road.

What Side Of The Road Are You Driving On?

Taking a vacation in a foreign country is one of the most exciting things you and your family will ever experience. While visiting North Cyprus offers you a wide range of things to do – from swimming in the ocean waters to hiking up the Five Finger Mountains – there is one thing you will need to adjust to while visiting: driving on the left hand side of the road. If you are visiting North Cyprus from a country that drives on the right hand side of the road you will need to be aware of which side you are driving on at all times. The last thing you want is for you vacation to be ruined due to an accident that could’ve been preventable.
Here is a mantra to keep in your head if you are visiting North Cyprus from a country other than the United Kingdom: ‘Left is right. Right is wrong.’ Sounds a little confusing, doesn’t it? If you keep it in your head, you will ensure that you stay on the proper side of the roadway. You are going to be fighting your natural instinct to drive on the right hand side of the road, unless you are from the United Kingdom. By keeping your speed at the speed limit you give yourself the extra time your mind will need to make a decision when needed, especially on roads that are very unfamiliar to you.
Tip #4: It’s okay to follow that crowdYou can get a lot of useful information about driving in North Cyprus by watching the other people that are driving. By paying attention to how other drivers exit parking lots, how they come out of junctions, and how they handle roundabouts you can learn how to negotiate the roads on the opposite side from what you are used to. However, if you should happen to be leaving the airport, try to follow the North Cyprus Car Hire employee that met you or a taxi cab so that you are following someone used to driving in the country.

Here in North Cyprus we are extremely lucky in that our winters consist mainly of heavy rainfall that can make our roads as slick as heavy snow in other parts of the world. Only the highest mountain elevations may see snow, and if they do it is a rare occurrence. Driving in the winter in North Cyprus can be a challenge, but when you invest in a car from North Cyprus Car Hire during the winter months, you are investing in a vehicle that has been checked out and prepared for the nasty weather.
Driving in the winter anywhere around the world causes you to cope with road conditions that are less than favorable. Slick wet roads can be accompanied by fog, wet leaves and debris, glare from the head lights of other vehicles, wind and of course rain. Add to the weather hazards unfamiliarity with the roads, the vehicle and the possibility of suddenly driving on what you perceive as the ‘wrong side of the road’, winter travel in North Cyprus can turn into an adventure.

Keep your foot off the brake

Vision during rain storms becomes impaired, and when you add fog to the road conditions you need the extra light. If you are driving in foggy conditions, use fog lights if the car is equipped with them or keep your lights on the low setting. Putting your high beams on in fog will only cause the light to be reflected back at you. When the weather conditions improve and visibility is restored, turn the headlights off.

Do not drive through flooded roads
There are areas in North Cyprus that flood in the winter due to the heavy rains. No matter what you do, do not drive through high water and flooded roads. High water and flooded roads can cause the car to flood and the engine to stop, leaving you stranded. If the water is high enough and moving at a fast enough pace, it could sweep you off the road all together. Instead, turn around and look for an alternate route to where you are going.
Tip #8:Keep an emergency kit in your car and make sure the vehicle has plenty of fuel

It is also a good idea to keep an emergency kit in your car that includes boots, warm clothing, blankets, a jacket that is highly visible and warm, and food and water. GPS users traveling to North Cyprus are going to be disappointed when they discover that their GPS systems might work in the country but is sorely out of date. If you’ve visited Cyprus before you probably received a paper map from the car hire North Cyprus company you rented from. That is because there is no current GPS map of North Cyprus available for these systems. You may be able to find GPS maps of the entire island on your favorite locator but old road names and missing streets are going to take a little while longer.

There are rumors circulating around about the government of North Cyprus and most major GPS companies being in negotiations about getting current maps developed and uploaded to this service. The map of the whole island nation can currently be found in Pocket Navigator 6. Some PDAs with GPS capability will also allow you to scan a paper map of the country into the PDA but it still will not give you anything more than the major roadways that are there.

There is some dissension in the ranks, however, between the Cyprus government and GPS systems, not over getting the North Cyprus information loaded but over the place names that are currently being used in North Cyprus. The Ministry even pointed out that according to the UN and UNESCO the names of places are part of a nation’s cultural heritage and should not be renamed lightly.

Visitors to North Cyprus who plan on getting a car hire have little to worry about as the so-called ban of GPS systems would be in violation of the EU free market laws. They will not be able to easily ban the sale of GPS systems regardless of the place names used on the Cyprus maps and they will not be able to stop vacationers to North Cyprus – or even Cyprus itself – from using GPS systems that include the Turkish place names. Most of the current systems come preloaded with the Turkish information already included. A current GPS map of North Cyprus would definitely help car hirers coming to the island. Many people rely on their GPS systems and an updated one would make travel considerably easier and more enjoyable.

It is interesting to note that despite the Cypriot government trying to ban these devices the North Cyprus government could be looking for ways to getting their maps updated and loaded into the GPS systems currently out there. Additionally, not many governments complain about what’s put in a device. They usually complain about the device itself. There is no word as to how long it could take to get the maps up and running on all GPS devices, and vacationers should keep in mind that the paper map of North Cyprus from the car hire company is really the best way to get around.

As a car hire company employee in North Cyprus, I have spoken to numerous vacationers who have lamented over the fact that something has happened to their camera. I’ve even had my own fair share of vacation camera problems, such as corrupt memory cards that are expensive to replace. And that’s assuming you can find one that works with your camera. When you travel overseas, things are not always compatible. No matter when you travel – summer or winter – it’s important to protect your camera while you are on holiday.

In an effort to help you have the best holiday possible, I talked to my car hire coworkers and here are some tips on keeping your camera safe that we wanted to pass on to you.

1. If you are going to be spending time on the beach it’s a good idea to keep your camera free from sand as much as possible. One grain of sand can cause your camera to stop functioning as well as scratch the camera lens. If you have to handle your camera while you are on the beach, make sure your hands are free from sand and that it is stored in a case that will not let sand get into it. Cameras are expensive to replace.

2. You can get an underwater housing for most cameras on the market today which is great if you want to take underwater pictures. However, unless you are absolutely sure the housing is water tight and will protect your camera at all times, consider investing in an underwater disposable camera for your trip. This way you know your camera will remain safe and secure and not accidentally get ruined due to water damage.

3. Back up your pictures as soon as possible. Since most people use digital cameras they will be saving their pictures on memory cards. You should make sure that you always have plenty of memory cards with you in case one gets corrupted. A lot of times a photo shop can recover the pictures so you do not want to dispose of the chip. Additionally, back up your pictures whenever you get the chance. Even if you only go to your hotel room for a moment, download your pictures on your computer while you are there. Then make a DVD copy of the day’s pictures just in case your computer crashes.

4. Always keep your camera secure no matter where you are. Do not leave it lying around as cameras are quite often the perfect target of thieves. My best suggestion is to carry your camera in a case that has a strap long enough to wear satchel style across your chest. This way it is harder to lose your camera or have it stolen. Keep you name and contact details in your camera case in the event that you should happen to lose it.

5. Consider taking out travel insurance before you leave on holiday so that your camera will be covered for damage in case something happens. If you are going to be brave and use your camera underwater you may have to take out additional insurance for it. Your insurance agent can let you know.

Motor Show Showcases Hybrid And Electric Cars

One of the most popular automotive shows in the world is the Frankfurt Motor Show and this year I was able to go out and experience it while looking for something new for our car hire in North Cyprus business. As the car selector for Pacific, it’s my job to scope out the best vehicles for the best prices to offer our customers. You would be surprised at all of the electric and hybrid cars that are currently on the market. Ranging from Peugeot to Mercedes to Audi, Ford and Volkswagen, there were plenty of cars to choose from that would offer our customers some nice choices when we get ready to offer them.

I was impressed with the range of hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars that were on display at the motor show. Toyota and GM are both planning on expanding their lines by 2012 in the United Kingdom as well as BMW. The BMW that is the most impressive is the diesel hybrid expected to be released soon. This car is expected to hit 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds, all while running at 75.1 mpg. Everyone is going to want this car and with gas mileage like that I can surely understand why.
While many of the cars at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show were somewhat fanciful in their design and function, two concept electric cars really stood out. They were the Audi E-Tron and the Volkswagen E-Up. Even though Lexus and Toyota also had some entries, these two really caught my attention.

The E-tron has the potential to be the electric sports car of the new future and it is currently a bit bigger than Audi’s TT. It’s a more streamlined car and it will use a lithium-ion battery with four electric motors, two for each axle. These power Audi’s popular Quattro system. Supposedly the car is going to have 313 horsepower capability and will speed from 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds with a 150 mile range. The battery pack is supposed to be liquid cooled and there will be a heat pump included in the car for air conditioning.

The E-top is based on Volkswagen’s older concept from 2007 but it is one step further along in its development with a more upright design and more length than the SmartForTwo. It’s actually very similar in design to the Scion iO which is to be released in 2010. It too includes a lithium ion battery that is good for 80 miles at 18kwh. This car is going to be really good for city driving yet it can reach up to 85 mph on the open road. According to Volkswagen this car can reach an 80 percent charge in a single hour.

Car hire in North Cyprus could see a change in the next few years as concept cars such as these continue to saturate the markets. Charging up a car in the course of a little over an hour is very appealing so I’m going to keep my eye on these efficient vehicles. Maybe one day you’ll be able to get one at a North Cyprus car hire for your holiday.

Keeping Your Photo License Up To Date

Have you taken a good look at the photo on your driver’s license lately? Does it still look like you? You may be surprised to find that you have changed your appearance drastically enough that authorities or others who look at your photo license may doubt who you say you are. Additionally, some countries, like the United Kingdom, put a statute of limitations on the photo portion of your driver’s license. If you haven’t looked already, take a peek at your license and see just what it says.

Since many of our car hire North Cyprus customers are from the United Kingdom we felt that it was a good idea to mention this fact. As the office manager, it is my responsibility to make sure my clients are hiring their vehicle properly and that requires seeing their driver’s license. I have had to make a few tough calls over the last ten years on customers because they did not look like their picture. And many of them had no idea that the photo part of their license was only good for 10 years. We will still hire cars out to you if your license photo is out of date and still looks like you, but we strongly urge that you get it updated.

To find out if the photo card of your license has expired you should look at section 4b of your license. There should be a year listed here that tells you when you will need to renew your photo. The United Kingdom added the photo card to licenses in 1998 so there is a good possibility your identification has lapsed and you need to get a new picture. The paper part of your license should still be in force as this part does not expire until you turn seventy years of age.

The DVLA of the United Kingdom started sending out renewal reminders in May 2008 to everyone that would fall within the new rules. There is a fee of £17.50 being charged for the renewal of the picture part of the license and if you do not comply with the renewal you could be facing a fine of up to £1000.

Once again we urge all of our car hire customers to check their driver’s licenses to make sure that they are up to date and not expired. Driving on an expired license no matter what country you are from is a big deal, and the last thing you want to worry about is explaining to overseas authorities who you are, where you live, and why your current license is not up to date.

Check your license before leaving whatever country you live in when you are traveling to North Cyprus. While we may rent a car to you with an overdue license, there may be other establishments and businesses in North Cyprus that will turn the license away. It is better to have all of your paperwork in order before going on holiday so that you can enjoy it while you visit North Cyprus.

One of the questions I receive the most from our customers here at Pacific Rent-A-Car is how are our customers supposed to handle petrol for their vehicles. Gas stations here in North Cyprus can be found in the larger cities but when you are heading out of town for a day in the country you will find that the gas stations become few and far between. When you hire a car from us for your time in North Cyprus we try to make fueling your car as easy as possible. Here are a few tips to help you out while you are here.

1.When you arrive at the airport we will meet you there with your car hire. We can deliver your car to you with 20 GBPs worth of petrol already in the car. You simply pay us for the petrol when you pick up the car there at the curbside. When you leave North Cyprus you can return the car to us with as little gas in it as you want. You do not need to refill the tank. We’ll take care of it for you. This eliminates trying to find a gas station when you are ready to leave.

2.If you know that you are going to be travelling all over North Cyprus, we recommend that you fill up your tank before you leave for your drive. It’s a good idea to fill it up even when you leave the area you are visiting to return to your lodgings if there is a gas station close by. As I mentioned earlier, the gas stations are few and far between on our country roads. We would hate to see you run out of gas.

3.We will provide you with maps that show you where you can return your Pacific Rent-A-Car hire vehicle in the event that you leave North Cyprus from a different location from where you arrived. You will find that the pick-up and drop off areas at the airports here are in different places. The map will give you directions to the drop off point. If you lose your map, my staff and I will be more than willing to print out one for you to make your departure considerably easier.

4.We do not require you to fill out any papers when you are returning your car. We do recommend that you hold onto your original car hire agreement so that you can double check that everything is correct before you leave. It’s better to solve any issues while you are still in North Cyprus than when you get home. You should check the paperwork before you leave the rental counter when you first arrive and before you leave. This way if we have made a mistake we can correct it as soon as possible.

As an employee of Kyrenia car rental service, I take pride in our service and our customers. You would be amazed at the number of visitors to North Cyprus that come back to us time and time again. We love all of our customers and their opinion of our service is a very big deal to us. We cannot fix anything our customers have a problem with if we don’t know about them, so hearing from our customers is something we look forward to.

I am part of Pacific Rent A Car’s Service Excellence team and every month I pull together our customer surveys to see what they have to say. I’m especially interested in what our customers would like to see us improve. I must admit that I do get a chuckle out of some of things they ask for. I will be the first one to say that some of the requests are a little farfetched. But other suggestions have been really great – such as carrying car seats for our customers who have small children and my co-workers and I have actually wondered why we didn’t do what our customers suggested in the first place.

In order to get the best feedback from our clients we contact all of the people who have rented from us. Our car hire clients are from all around the world and we use an outside source to collect out surveys and send us the results. I know I prefer to have an unbiased and impartial view of the results sent to me so that I am not influenced in any way and can suggest changes that make sense. All of us at Pacific work on our survey and as we get more customers using our service we send out more surveys for feedback. How else are we going to build up a report with our customers if we don’t know how they feel?

I thought it was important when we developed our survey to ask our customers right off the bat if they would recommend us to a friend who is visiting North Cyprus. The answer is graded on a scale of 1 to 10 and the majority of our survey results come back with a score above 5, the mid range ‘maybe, maybe not’ spot. Our results have been consistent too over the last few years and that shows us that we are definitely on the right track to pleasing our customers and ensuring that they come back time and time again.

If you need car or booster seats for your trip we ask that you request it when you make your car hire reservations. We have a limited supply available, but we want your trip to be the best it can possibly be. Additionally, if you have any problems with the vehicle you hire from us during your stay, we will come out and replace the vehicle with the same model or a comparable one so that you can continue on your way with little to no hassle.

As a result of feedback from customers, I thought it might be useful to explain the principals of our car rental pricing.

As with any other product or service, the price you, the customer, pay is based upon;
• The cost of providing the service
• Demand vs supply

Like airlines, the number of people who want to rent a car (or get on a flight) versus the availability of cars (or seats on a flight) dictates the price of that car for that period, so when there becomes less supply - normally closer to the pick-up date, the price will increase. This means that booking close to pick up is likely to be more expensive than booking in advance.

How can our customers, get the best deal? Booking in advance allows Pacific Car Rentals to manage the business more efficiently thus keeping our costs down and allowing us to pass these savings onto our customers.

What is included in the price of hire? The cost of hire includes all taxes and insurance, CDW and collection and delivery of the vehicle within the Kyrenia area. We make a small charge for delivery and collection to the Famagusta / Bogaz area.

Focus Takes Place of Matrix At Pacific

The staff at Pacific Rent A Car would like to apologize to all of our customers who were eagerly awaiting the new Hyundai Matrix vehicles we announced bringing into our hire selection. We have recently received word from Hyundai that there is currently a one month delay on all new models rolling out of the production plants and that we would not have them at the end of May 2009 as we originally promised.

“This is a small setback for Pacific and while we know that many of our regular customers in and out of Cyprus were looking forward to and had already made reservations for the new Matrix, we simply cannot put them in a car hire we don’t have. But we are able to offer all of our customers the new Ford Focus vehicle we have purchased in place of the delayed Hyundai’s,” stated Sue, our reservation manager.

We are going to be adding five Ford Focus’ instead of five Hyundai Matrix's. Both vehicles are comparable in style, gas mileage, and seating. The Focus is part of our ‘Comfort Car Hire’ division and they are great for families with small children. You can comfortably seat three adults and two children in the Focus or two adults and two children with baby seats. If you need a baby seat, let us know when you book your Ford Focus. We have a limited supply available.

Like the Matrix which is also in this division, the Ford Focus’ we will be receiving are all equipped with power steering, electric front windows, airbags, anti-lock brake systems, and central door locking mechanisms. They all use standard unleaded petrol and we recommend that you ask in advance for a manual or automatic transmission if you have a preference.

Huseyin Ocal, our current car tester and co-founder of Pacific, stated in response to the situation, “The Ford Focus is a reliable family vehicle that is great on gas and big on comfort. We have had a lot of customers compliment us on our selection of Focus’ for our fleet, and there was no hesitation on my part to recommend replacing the delayed Matrix with the Focus in preparation for our busy summer rental season.” The Focus’ will be joining the Matrix, the Opel Astra and the Fiat Grande Punte in our fleet.

We would like to remind our customers that we offer advance booking services and that our vehicles cannot be taken out of North Cyprus. Additionally, we do offer airport service and can meet your plane with one of our new Ford Focus’ when you arrive.

Pacific Rent-A-Car Adds More Matrix

In an effort to keep up with our increasing tourist trade hitting North Cyprus, we at Pacific Rent-A-Car announce that we will be adding five automatic transmission Hyundai Matrixs to our car hire line-up. The decision came after reviewing all of our previous customer reviews and determining that this is the car our customers preferred the most.

The Hyundai Matrix is a multi-purpose vehicle that has been winning awards all over the world since it was first introduced to the automotive industry. It was actually designed by an Italian auto company, Pinindarina, and it is usually used by consumers as a mini MPV and leisure vehicle even though it is classified by automakers as a full sized MPV. It is a great family vehicle that can seat five, with a nice hatchback that allows tourists to North Cyprus plenty of room for their luggage and other gear.

“The Hyundai Matrix is one of the best vehicles we have ever had the fortune to have in our hire fleet,” stated Huseyin Ocal, co-founder of Pacific and current car tester and recommender. “Based on the rental numbers and the feedback we have received from our customers since adding the initial Matrix vehicles to the line up, we felt that adding five more of these MPVs would be advantageous.”

Additionally, the Matrix’s status as an MPV is a good thing on the roads of North Cyprus. Many of the back roads leading to the more interesting tourist sites are rough and contain plenty of potholes. The Matrix can easily traverse these roads.
Any problems with a vehicle hired from Pacific are immediately addressed and we offer road side assistance whenever needed. One of our service representatives will bring our customers a new vehicle so that they can continue on their road trip at no additional cost.

One thing tourists to North Cyprus need to remember is that they cannot take their hire vehicle into South Cyprus. All travel must be done above the embarkation line as we cannot insure our vehicles or our hire drivers in South Cyprus.

Pacific Rent A Car Promotes New Ford Fiesta

Pacific Rent A Car has been providing visitors to North Cyprus with high quality hire vehicles for quite a number of years, and as co-founder of the company I have been involved with helping determine the best cars for our fleet. My name is Huseyin Ocal, and I am the one who tests all of the cars for the Pacific Rent A Car company in order to find the ones that will suit the needs and tastes of our customers the best.

While my position in the company was considerably busier before I retired, I decided not to leave the Pacific family on a permanent basis. Instead I took on the position as researcher, investigating the many different makes and models of cars that have been released by auto manufacturers over the years. I was the one that recommended adding the Ford Focus and Hyundai Matrix to our hire fleet based on comments made by our customers. And in this position, I am delighted to take the vehicles I think would benefit our company out on test drives and put them through their paces.

I recently had the opportunity to test drive the new Ford Fiesta and I was very impressed with the way this compact car handled. It held the roads well and the gas mileage was beyond adequate. As North Cyprus does not have many gas stations, our customers are always looking to hire a vehicle that will do well on gasoline. The Ford Fiesta is one of them. It was released in both an automatic and standard model with a 1.4 litre gas motor. It is the same size as the previous Fiesta’s Ford has released, although the body style has been changed to reflect a more modern and rounded appearance.

By the time I was down test driving the Ford Fiesta I knew that this was the perfect hire car for Pacific and I made my recommendations on everything I gathered on this powerful little car. Thanks to my careful research I am pleased to announce that we have added five brand new Ford Fiesta’s to our fleet of hire cars. With the Ford Fiesta as part of our fleet we can now give our customers even more to choose from when they book a car with us.

Because the Fiesta is a compact, I felt strongly about adding it to the fleet to offer our business visitors a reliable and economical car that would suit them well in the cities or on the country back roads. Most business travellers need nothing more than a car of this size and there is adequate storage space in the hatch to accommodate their luggage and business paraphernalia. This is not a family car and I would not recommend it for families visiting the island. However, a vacationing couple interested in travelling light and touring the island will find the Ford Fiesta exactly what they need during their stay.

As with all of our other fleet vehicles we are more than happy to arrange pickup for you at Ercan Airport, providing you immediately with your hire car. If for some reason you are not happy with the car we provide, we encourage you to tell us so that we can return to the Pacific office and make it right. After all, you the customer must be pleased with the vehicle you are going to drive and the service we provide. If you are not, we simply ask to rectify the problem. Additionally, we will provide you with road service if needed, even on our new Ford Fiesta. We pride ourselves on our customer service and we look forward to meeting your needs.
